South Africa is set to experience a musical event of note as the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra (USO), under the leadership of conductor Kenneth Kiesler, embarks on his first tour to the shores during Africa Month — making Kiesler’s debut the most anticipated appearance in the country during this historic month.

Recognised as one of the finest student orchestras in the world, the USO’s ensemble brings together exceptional young musicians in a unique display of artistic excellence. Despite having never performed together with the various artists before, they will unite to deliver breathtaking symphonic performances that promises to leave audiences spellbound.

Adding to the excitement, Kiesler recently appeared on JustGospel Radio, providing deep insights into his incredible career, his passion for music, and the magic he creates on stage. His interview offered audiences a glimpse into the artistry and expertise that makes him a revered conductor in the classical music world—leaving listeners eager to witness his brilliance live.

Joining the USO on this, let us call it the African Tour, in celebration of Africa Month, are three soloists: internationally acclaimed bass-baritone and Professor of Music at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, Daniel A. Washington; 2025 Grammy award-winning soprano, Karen Slack; and our own Daughter of the soil a celebrated soprano, Goitsemang Lehobye all the way from Pretoria.

Audiences across the country will have the chance to witness this world-class orchestra perform in some of South Africa’s most iconic venues, including the University of Pretoria, Soweto, Johannesburg, Stellenbosch, and the grand finale at Cape Town City Hall.

This tour is made possible by Classical Movements, the global concert tour company renowned for curating meaningful cultural experiences through music in 147 countries. The organisation has previously brought world-class ensembles such as the Minnesota Orchestra and the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra to South Africa and is also the driving force behind the acclaimed Ihlombe Choral Festival, the nation’s largest international choral gathering.

Prepare for an unforgettable musical experience as the USO, under the leadership of Kenneth Kiesler, showcases its technically brilliant, flawlessly synchronised ensemble playing—proving that the power of music transcends borders, time, and prior rehearsals.
